Alfred State’s Day of Giving raises over $218,000

Thanks to another amazing show of support from alumni, faculty, staff, and friends, Alfred State College (ASC) was able to raise $218,439 this year during its fifth annual Day of Giving.

Funds donated for the yearly event benefit a number of causes at Alfred State, from scholarships, to new programs and updated technology, to athletic programs and so much more. This day also saw a number of donors providing support for the Alfred State SOS Fund, which has made a major impact on the lives of more than 200 current students during these uncertain and challenging times.

Alfred State Director of Development Jason Sciotti, said, “This year’s Day of Giving was challenging to say the least, but what hasn’t been over the last eight months? With on-campus activities and fun student gatherings canceled, the day looked much different on the Alfred State campus. My most enjoyable part of our annual Day of Giving is feeling the energy around campus and watching our students blow off some steam before the final stretch of the semester while they take in some personal life lessons on the power of philanthropy!”

He continued, “With that on hold this year, we were still able to communicate and spread the word to our Alfred State Family near and far. With overwhelming support and generosity, we were able to not only reach but exceed our goal of raising $200,000 from more than 300 donors. The passion and support that I have seen during these difficult times has been overwhelming and I just want to say thanks to all that continue to show their Pioneer Pride!”

Throughout the week, the Alfred State Institutional Advancement Office also collected nonperishable and personal care items to help replenish the on-campus food pantry, which was started in the spring of 2020 as a response to the needs resulting from the impact of the pandemic and continues to meet vital student needs every day.

The Office of Alumni Relations, headed by Director Roxana Sammons, staged the Pumpkin Run for the week – a virtual 5K for alumni, faculty, staff, and students of the college to come together from all regions and show their support for the future of Alfred State.

Additionally, ASC was assisted by several matching and major gift donors who helped to challenge the Pioneer community in order to make an even greater impact. The list includes:

-A $50,000 major gift to the college by a 1967 alum.

-A $30,000 major gift from a 1962 alum.

-A $20,000 gift from an anonymous donor that was unlocked during the “hour of power” push.

-A kickoff gift of $10,000 from a loyal donor and friend of the college.

-A $5,000 gift from a friend of the college that was released when the milestone of 250 online donors was reached.

-A $1,000 match to the SOS fund from a 1981 alum.
