Hospitals across New York were directed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo to increase surge capacity by a minimum of 50%. Facilities that failed to implement a plan could face state action and permitting issues. When contacted by Wellsville Regional News, Jones Memorial Hospital (JMH) issued the following statement:
Jones Memorial is well-prepared to meet our surge capacity.
We have developed a multi-phase surge plan and submit a daily census survey. In
addition, we are preparing to meet the anticipated patient surge and we
continue to work with our staff to cross-train them for areas where they may be
working as our patient volumes increase. Throughout our preparations for what
is coming, we continue to take care of acutely ill and non-COVID-19 patients.
For the safety of our patients and our staff we implemented universal masking
this past week; we continue to screen all staff and patients entering the
building; and we have curtailed the visitation of parents of children and the
families of comfort care patients.
For the past several weeks, JMH staff members have been busy making internal changes to meet increased demands. The hospital will continue to adapt operations to meet the ever-changing state guidelines.
