Wild winds bring down trees, utility lines

The strong winds that were forecasted for Allegany County on Sunday materialized around 4 a.m. The peak gust recorded at the Wellsville Municipal Airport was 38 mph. Law enforcement and fire crews were dispatched to a number of trees that toppled onto roadways, often bringing wires down as well.
As of 10 a.m., power companies reported:
RG&E reported 435 customers without power in Amity, Angelica, Friendship, Hume and Wirt.
NYSEG reported a total of 29 customers out in Grove and Ward.
National Grid reported only a handful without electric-fewer than five in Scio, fewer than 15 in Willing.
