On January 22, 2020, the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) out of SP Amity arrested Mark A. Sarama, 31 of Mayville, NY (and Fillmore) for Kidnapping with intent to collect ransom (A Felony), Burglary 1st degree (B Felony) 2 counts, Robbery 1st degree (B Felony) 2 counts, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree (C Felony), Grand Larceny 4th degree: Firearm (E Felony) and Resisting Arrest (A Misdemeanor).
On January 22, 2020 at approximately 3:30a.m.., Troopers responded
to a 911 call for an unknown, unwanted armed male in a residence on Emerald
Street in the Hamlet of Fillmore.
Troopers confronted Sarama outside the residence by the victim’s
vehicle. Sarama did not comply with
commands and Troopers were able to physically take him into custody. Upon taking Sarama into custody he overdosed
on narcotics he had previously taken and received medical treatment at Jones
Memorial Hospital. The victim was taken
from in the residence to the vehicle at gun point to get more money at the ATM
when Troopers arrived.
Further investigation revealed that Samara went to another
residence on Emerald Street earlier on January 22nd and allegedly struck a
90-year-old victim with a handgun, knocking him unconscious. The suspect discharged the weapon in the
residence then stole a flat screen TV and cash.
This was reported by the 90-year-old victim who contacted police and he
was treated by EMS for non-life -threatening injuries. Sarama allegedly stole
the pistol from a third location on Emerald Street where he was staying. He was
released from Jones Memorial Hospital and taken to the Amity barracks.
Sarama was arraigned in the town of Hume Court and remanded
to the Allegany County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash or $200,000 Insurance
Company Bond or $300,000 Partially Secured Appearance Bond. The felony hearing is scheduled later in
January 2020.
