Alfred State College to host ‘A Holiday Spectacular’ winter concert Dec. 7

The Alfred State College Performing Arts Department would like to invite you, your family, and friends to its free, annual Instrumental Music Winter Concert, “A Holiday Spectacular,” on Friday, Dec. 7, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Orvis Activities Center Cappadonia Auditorium.
This year’s concert will feature a varied program, with the jazz quartet presenting standard jazz numbers and upbeat Christmas music with some surprises. Alfred State’s rock ensembles, under the leadership of students Patrick McFadden, network administration, Clifton Springs; and Carmine Ferri, computer engineering technology, Hamburg, meanwhile, will perform classic rock Christmas numbers.
Members of Alfred State’s vocal group, under the direction of newly appointed director/adviser Sarabeth Matteson, will ‘sing’ their way into this holiday season with festive holiday songs.
The concert band, under the direction of Gerald Ives, will perform selections from the motion picture sound tracks of John Williams, Hans Zimmer, and Alan Silvestri.
The combined vocal and concert band members will conclude the concert and usher in the holiday season with a medley of songs from the computer-animated film, “The Polar Express.”
Ives also noted that Alfred State’s performing arts organizations are committed to supporting community organizations through civic engagement projects. Their continued support through the collection of donations at the concert will go toward helping young individuals with disabilities attending the Mary Cariola Children Center.
“We also encourage you to bring in your unused instruments and donate them to help aspiring young musicians – who cannot afford an instrument – enjoy and create the sounds of music,” Ives said.
Please come, watch, and enjoy as Alfred State’s talented musicians ring in the holiday season.
