NEW YORK, NY -- Cynthia Nixon released the following statement regarding the controversial former Milwaukee Sheriff receiving the keynote address slot at the May 9th Law Enforcement Vendor Exposition of the New York State Association of Chiefs of Police at the Albany Capital Center:
“New York should not be giving David Clarke a platform to continue to call on police officers to treat Black Lives Matter activists as terrorists, which he has done for years. While thousands of New Yorkers have marched to demand accountability from police officers, Clarke has denied the existence of police brutality. New Yorkers deserve better than this slap in the face to our communities demanding justice.”
According to the New York State Association of Chiefs of Police website, former Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarke speech topics include, “the preparedness of law enforcement in political protests and riots, and the impact of criminal justice reform in an era that has seen the rise of domestic political extremism from groups such as...Black Lives Matter."
