Commentary: 1984-86 WJQZ investment still holding together

Current 2017 owner - Bob Mangels on left
Every now and then, we all get caught off guard over 'something.' It happened to me Thursday when I read the Wellsville Daily Reporter. Kathryn Ross did a feature story on a SPCA Radio-Thon that will occur on WJQZ in Wellsville on Saturday. The story was fine (no worries K)...it was the photo that stirred an emotion or two. I haven't been in the broadcast studio for the radio station that I founded/co-founded in at least 15 years.
I remember with unusual clarity every moment of the construction of that station. When I saw the picture, a flood of memories rushed back. I remember the day that clock (in the photo) was purchased. I remember the rationale for the carpet on the walls. I remember Louie Mason building the "cart/tape" rack and the counter that supports the equipment. I recall how much the microphone stands cost...Hell, the current owners still have the record turntable (thank you Bob).

When I took the money and ran...I wish I hauled out all the old 45's and albums.
It's good that the current ownership has decided to keep things 'live and local.' The event supporting the SPCA is worthy of coverage.
That place at 82 Railroad Avenue certainly has memories for me...mainly good! As I reflect, I kick myself for agreeing to the sale. I can only imagine...what could have been.
