Obituary: Betty Jean Windus, 91, Wellsville

Betty Jean Windus, 91, of Wellsville, NY, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, October 13, 2017 in Hart Comfort House, Wellsville.  Born January 5, 1926, at home in Wellsville, she was the daughter of Clarence and Rhea Marsh Hanchett, Sr.  On February 26, 1949, in the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church on Pearl Street in Wellsville, she married Donald C. Windus, who survives.  Betty Jean, or Jean as most knew her, was a 1944 graduate of Wellsville High School.  She attended Robert Packer Hospital School of Nursing, Sayre, PA.  She was very proud to be in the last graduating class of the Nurse Cadet Corps in 1948.  From 1949 through 1970, she was employed as a Registered Nurse by Jones Memorial Hospital in the surgical and maternity departments.  Along with her husband, Donald, she was a member of the Riverside Assembly of God Church in Wellsville, where she enjoyed several years teaching Sunday school and leading bible studies.  Jean and Don resided for 50 plus years on the Back River Road in Belmont prior to moving to Wellsville in 2006.  In addition to family gatherings, she enjoyed rummage sales, gardening, watching and feeding birds, and word find puzzles.  Surviving besides her husband of 68 years, Donald, are:  four children, Ellen Harris of Candor, NY, Kimberly (Warren) Dickerson of Belmont, Philip (Louise) Windus of Belmont, and Marjorie (Louie) Smith, Jr. of Scio;  her youngest brother, Alan James Hanchett of Wellsville;  nine grandchildren, Connee Dickerson, Joseph Dickerson, Marsha Windus, Craig (Tamera) Windus, Jody Chalker, Bronson Harris, Sara (Shawn) Mahoney, Erin (Dana) Willett, and Adam Trivisondoli;  five great-grandchildren, Noah Windus, Evan Windus, Haley Windus, Wyatt Willett, and Madyson Mahoney;  nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her oldest brother, Clarence Hanchett, Jr. and his wife, Ursula Hanchett;  and a sister-in-law, Doris Hanchett.  Friends may call at Riverside Assembly of God Church, Wellsville, NY on Thursday, October 19, 2017 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., with Funeral Services following at 3:00 p.m.  Pastor Fred Francisco and Pastor John Francisco will co-officiate.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hart Comfort House, www.hartcomforthouse.org, 151 East State St., Wellsville, NY 14895.  Arrangements are entrusted to Mulholland-Crowell Funeral Home, Wellsville, NY.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.wellsvillefuneralhome.com.
