It's been close to a year since GE Lufkin closed the doors at its facility near the Wellsville Airport. Dozens of workers suddenly joined the ranks of the unemployed. The situation seemed fairly grim. Now, there's word that the facility may soon employ workers again. The gossip mill has been working overtime. WRN has heard from several reliable sources that an existing Wellsville business plans to move into the facility. Of course, no one with an official title will comment. The closest we've been able to come to understanding that the business by the airport will again soon thrive is from the August report submitted by the Allegany County Office of Development. The report says -
- GE Lufkin facility donation paperwork is about final, working with Allegany County IDA (ACIDA) lawyer.
- ACIDA lawyer has about finalized contract with a regional company for the GE Lufkin facility.
It seems pretty solid that the industrial building will soon be churning away again. We hope the news breaks soon. We could all use a little more encouragement.
