Thompson Applauds EPA's Decision to Withdraw Oil and Gas Survey Request

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In November of 2016, the U.S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) began requesting information from oil and gas producers regarding methane emissions from existing production well and facility sites. Though the surveys were requested by the EPA, costly fines would have been assessed on individual oil and gas operators for non-compliance.
Today, the EPA announced that the survey request is withdrawn. U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson released the following statement:
“I am pleased to see EPA Administrator Pruitt swiftly reject this requirement that was ill-conceived and burdensome. This was yet another unnecessary mandate on oil and gas producers that would have done nothing to protect the environment, but rather would have just harmed the industry – especially small producers. Thankfully, the EPA heard the concerns of the industry, took them seriously and acted to overturn this rule.”
