From Olean PD: Two of our patrol officers responded to 126 N. 4th Street Thursday evening at 5:50 p.m. for a check on the welfare of a subject at this residence. After speaking with the subject, the owners dog ran towards the officers. The dog bit patrolman Ensell twice causing injury to his arm. Ensell has been with OPD for five years. Attempts to stop the dog from attacking the officers by using pepper spray failed and unfortunately the dog was shot and eventually died. Ptlm. Ensell was transported by ambulance by Olean City Fire to Olean General Hospital for his wounds and was later released. We are wishing Ptlm. Ensell a fast recovery.
