FORMER SPENCERPORT TEACHER GOING TO PRISON FOR RECEIPT OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross announced today that Ian Milam, 37, of Pittsford, NY, who was convicted of receipt of child pornography, was sentenced to serve 168 months in prison by U.S. District Court Judge Charles J. Siragusa.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Meghan K. McGuire and Melissa M. Marangola, who handled the case, stated that Milam was a math teacher at Cosgrove Middle School in the Spencerport, NY, School District. On January 29, 2023, Milam created the Snapchat accounts “matteckler” and “mikeywikey37,” and used these Snapchat accounts to pose as a 15-year-old male and engage in sexually explicit communications with a number of minor females, ages 11 to 15-years-old. During one of these conversations in May 2023, Milam persuaded a 12-year-old minor student to take and send him naked pictures of herself.

The sentencing is the result of an investigation by the Greece Police Department, under the direction of Chief Michael Wood, the FBI Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Miraglia, and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, under the direction of Sheriff Todd Baxter.

SBU's Morales inducted in 10th Mountain Division Hall of Fame

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y., June 27, 2024 — Francisco “Frank” Morales, director of St. Bonaventure University’s Office of Veterans Services, has been inducted into the 10th Mountain Division Warrior Legend Hall of Fame.

The retired master sergeant from Portville, New York, was one of three people inducted June 20 at a ceremony during Fort Drum’s annual Mountainfest.

Since 2020, the Hall of Fame has recognized 28 individuals who have supported the 10th Mountain Division through their exceptional contributions. A Warrior Legend is defined as one who has exhibited the best qualities and characteristics of the 10th Mountain Division through a lifetime of service.

Maj. Gen. Scott Naumann, Fort Drum commander, described the inductees as remarkable individuals who have demonstrated excellence and dedication in their public and private lives.

“They are the embodiment of sacrifice, service, and selflessness,” he said. “They are pillars of the 10th Mountain Division community. These individuals have demonstrated their commitment with deeds not words, the qualities we value in the best of our mountain warriors.”

Morales joined the faculty at St. Bonaventure in 2007 as a military science instructor in the university’s Army ROTC program. He also founded the Student Veterans Association and returned to SBU in 2017 as the Military Aligned Students director.

“I didn’t prepare a speech today,” Morales said. “But I’m forced to speak quite often in the last 10 years, and what I talk about most is how important it is for us to continue the mission of supporting those who serve.”

Morales brought two of his students to the ceremony to experience a little of what being in the 10th Mountain Division meant to him. He said the honor of being inducted would be impossible if it weren’t for the teammates he served with — some who never made it home but remain in his thoughts.

“I want to thank all of you for what you do, everybody who is part of this team,” he said. “It is great to be brought back home, and it is an honor to be a part of this great division.”

Inductee plaques will be added to the Hall of Fame wall inside the 10th Mountain Division and Fort Drum Museum.

In May, Morales was inducted into the New York state Senate’s Veterans Hall of Fame at a ceremony in Albany.

PennDOT Advises Property Owners of Permit Requirements

Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) reminded property owners that they must obtain a Highway Occupancy Permit (HOP) from PennDOT if planning property improvements that include constructing or altering a driveway that connects to a state highway.

HOPs for driveways are required by Section 420 of Title 36, also known as the State Highway Law. PennDOT urges property owners without one of these permits to obtain one to legitimize their driveway and retain it as evidence of compliance with the law.

Property owners may submit permit applications online or by using a paper application. Visit www.PennDOT.pa.gov, select “Highway Occupancy Permits" from the “Permits" page under “Doing Business" to access PennDOT's Electronic Permitting System (ePermitting) and submit an online application. Printable versions of PennDOT Form M-950A or M-945A are accessible from the “Permits" page under “HOP-Related Forms."

Forms are also available at PennDOT county offices. Property owners should submit completed applications to the county office for review. PennDOT will review the driveway location for compliance with applicable laws and regulations, such as sight distances, drainage, and proposed driveway design features, to eliminate costly problems that the property owner might otherwise be held responsible for, such as relocating the driveway. Office location information is available on the department's website under “Regional Offices."

Property owners must apply for a permit at least 30 days before they start work unless the application is for a long-existing driveway. PennDOT strongly encourages property owners to obtain a driveway permit before a building permit, which may be required in some municipalities by ordinance. Property owners can avoid potential conflicts by determining an acceptable driveway location before constructing a building on the property, which helps property owners avoid potentially costly issues.

Once they have completed driveway construction or alteration, the property owner can notify the local PennDOT county office so it can conduct a final inspection to verify that the work completed is consistent with the permit.

The application/inspection fee for a residential driveway permit is $25. A property owner who fails to obtain a permit before constructing a new driveway or altering the design of an existing one is subject to a minimum $100 fine plus court costs. Additional costs would also result if the driveway is installed improperly and needs to be corrected by the property owner or PennDOT.

While a property owner is not typically required to have a driveway permit to pave an existing, permitted driveway, PennDOT still urges them to contact their local county office before paving one to discuss any potential impacts to highway drainage. If they fail to accommodate highway drainage, they may be required to make repairs later at their own expense.

Allegany County- The murder of Ray Cornelius of Ward continues - Buffalo media now investigating UPDATED

Ray Cornelius, an 82-year-old man who was fatally shot inside his home in the Allegany County Town of Ward, has not gone silent. NY state police along with the investigative team with WGRZ, Channel 2 in Buffalo, are digging in to this case. Wellsville Regional News broke this story and has never really let up. Now, though, Channel 2 in Buffalo has taken an interest in what is called a 'cold case' from 2017. During my reporting, lead state police investigator Jed Murphy took issue with the phrase 'cold case'. In a 2017 interview, Investigator Murphy said this is a “challenging case…one that has kept him up at night.” Murphy said this afternoon (at the time) that this case has “taken time,” and a case that the six BCI officers are “definitely working.” To the family, Murphy said that they can “call me anytime."

During the years, there were claims of new leads...but nothing appears to have developed.

In a 2018 interview with Murphy, WRN learned that new search warrants were issued. In that interview, State police did confirm to WRN that Cornelius died from a single shot gun wound to the torsos. Murphy said that “if anyone heard a gunshot last July…or knows of a missing gun…” to contact police.

The WRN interviews continued is 2020, however Investigators said leads faded, other serious cases came in...and the family has been left wondering. Every month, a family member calls Amity-based Investigators.

Thanks to WGRZ Buffalo Dave McKinley for nosing around to develop new leads. He too, has been conducting interviews that may air on July 3rd.  WRN has been told that new rewards are being offered.

Angelica – Brenda Warner, 85, passed away peacefully at Highland Park Nursing Center in Wellsville, New York, on Tuesday, June 18, 2024.

Brenda was born on September 10, 1938, in Angelica, New York, the daughter of the late James and Onalee Phippen Graham. She married the love of her life, James Brown Warner, on July 13, 1963, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Angelica.

A lifelong resident, she graduated from the former Angelica Central School “Class of 1956” and went on to graduate from E. J. Meyer School of Nursing in Buffalo, New York.

A registered nurse, she was passionate about caring for everyone around her. Her fondest days on the job were those years spent as the school nurse and bus driver at Angelica Central School. Her kind and generous heart was reflected in the joy she found in helping others, especially children. Whether it be providing medical care or baking one of her famous apple pies, her love could be felt in everything she did. Brenda was most happy when her family was gathered together, cherishing every story, memory and laugh shared over a good meal. Her warmth and kindness, often expressed through the sentiment, "the door is always open," live on in the close bonds she helped create among her children, nieces, nephews and grandchildren, her greatest legacy.

She was predeceased by her husband, her parents and her brother, Dale Graham. She is survived by her sister, Sylvia Graham Benjamin; her children Tammy (James Cerullo) Warner and Daniel (Mary) Warner; her grandchildren Paige (Scott) Ludtka, Curtis Warner and Audrey Warner; her great-granddaughter Eleanor Ludtka; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
