Alfred State Vice President for Academic Affairs Carrie Cokely has named Francine Staba the Dean for Academic Support and Student Success. Staba will begin her duties immediately.
“We are excited to have the opportunity to reimagine a
vacant position into this new Dean role in order to further support and
strengthen Alfred State’s commitment to student success.” commented Cokely.
“Francine’s student-centered approach, experience as a faculty member, and
institutional knowledge made her an ideal candidate to fill this role. I look
forward to working with her and our School Deans to continue to support the
student academic experience.”
Since June 2022, Staba has served as the Interim Associate
Dean for the Center for Academic Resource & Excellence. In this role she
supervises staff and oversees the operations of the Academic Advising Center,
the Student Success Center, the Office of Accessibility Services, and the
Educational Opportunity Program. She also manages area projects, processes, and
procedures, assists in data collection and development of grant proposals, and
represents her area by serving on numerous campus-wide committees. Staba has
also served as the Project Director of the Title III SIP Grant.
In the newly established role, Francine will continue these
responsibilities and work alongside the VPAA to lead academic initiates related
to First Year Experience, review of academic policies and procedures, and
increasing retention and graduation rates.
“As a long-time employee of the college, I am honored and
excited to continue the important work of serving our students and the campus
community in this new role,” commented Staba. “I look forward to being afforded
the opportunity to explore and lead initiatives that will improve the student
experience, support their academic success, and increase student
retention.”
