Allegany County Republican Committee looking for volunteers for the Allegany County Fair

The Allegany County Republican Committee is looking for volunteers to meet and greet constituents at the Allegany County Fair again this year. Dates for the Fair are Monday, July 15 through Saturday, July 20

If you are someone on the ballot this is a great opportunity to campaign.  Even if you are not on the ballot it is a great time to meet others that are interested in joining the party or that might have questions that you have answers to.

Don't worry if you have never volunteered or are not a candidate- everything will be set up for you. We will have displayed all Republican Campaign information that is available as well as voter registration forms. All we need are willing volunteers to take a turn to meet and greet people that come by with a smile and "Hello, how are you".

Attached you will find the sign up sheet with those that have already committed to specific time slots.  If you are a District Chair please be sure to circulate this within your district to those on the ballot.  Please let me know if you are available to fill one or more time slots and which ones.  Please note that you do not have to sit for the entire time slot, we have some that like to visit for an hour or two, that is appreciated as well.

As always a special thank you to those who continue to volunteer and give time to the party.

Allegany County- The murder of Ray Cornelius of Ward continues - Buffalo media now investigating UPDATED

Ray Cornelius, an 82-year-old man who was fatally shot inside his home in the Allegany County Town of Ward, has not gone silent. NY state police along with the investigative team with WGRZ, Channel 2 in Buffalo, are digging in to this case. Wellsville Regional News broke this story and has never really let up. Now, though, Channel 2 in Buffalo has taken an interest in what is called a 'cold case' from 2017. During my reporting, lead state police investigator Jed Murphy took issue with the phrase 'cold case'. In a 2017 interview, Investigator Murphy said this is a “challenging case…one that has kept him up at night.” Murphy said this afternoon (at the time) that this case has “taken time,” and a case that the six BCI officers are “definitely working.” To the family, Murphy said that they can “call me anytime."

During the years, there were claims of new leads...but nothing appears to have developed.

In a 2018 interview with Murphy, WRN learned that new search warrants were issued. In that interview, State police did confirm to WRN that Cornelius died from a single shot gun wound to the torsos. Murphy said that “if anyone heard a gunshot last July…or knows of a missing gun…” to contact police.

The WRN interviews continued is 2020, however Investigators said leads faded, other serious cases came in...and the family has been left wondering. Every month, a family member calls Amity-based Investigators.

Thanks to WGRZ Buffalo Dave McKinley for nosing around to develop new leads. He too, has been conducting interviews that may air on July 3rd.  WRN has been told that new rewards are being offered.

State Police statement from major crimes:

On Monday July 3, 2017 at approximately 11:20 am a family member contacted the Allegany County 911 Center and advised that he had located 82 yo Raymond C. Cornelius deceased at his home located at 4849 Wadsworth Hill Rd in the Town of Ward, Allegany County.  The family member advised that he had gone to check on Ray as no one in the family had been able to reach him via telephone since approximately 6:30 pm on Saturday July 1, 2017.  Troopers arrived on scene and noted a broken window confirming Cornelius had been shot in the back from outside of the residence.  Cornelius had no known enemy’s and the murder has haunted the family for the last seven years.

NYS Private Sector Employment Up 15,800 Jobs in May 2024

NYS Private Sector Employment Up 15,800 Jobs in May 2024

Unemployment Rate Holds Steady Over the Month

According to preliminary seasonally adjusted figures released today by the New York State Department of Labor, the number of private sector jobs in New York State increased over the month by 15,800, or 0.2%, to 8,376,200 in May 2024. The number of private sector jobs in the U.S. also increased by 0.2% in May 2024.

New York State's private sector jobs (not seasonally adjusted) increased by 126,000, or 1.5%, over the year in May 2024, which was less than the 1.6% increase in the number of private sector jobs in the U.S.

New York State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held steady at 4.2% in May 2024. At the same time, New York State's labor force (seasonally adjusted) decreased by 7,800. As a result, the statewide labor force participation rate held constant at 61.3% in May 2024.

The number of private sector jobs in New York State is based on a payroll survey of New York businesses conducted by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Monthly payroll employment estimates are preliminary and subject to revision as more complete data become available the following month. The BLS calculates New York State’s unemployment rate based partly upon the results of the monthly Current Population Survey (CPS) of approximately 3,100 households in the State.

Note: Seasonally adjusted data provide the most valid month-to-month comparison. Non-seasonally adjusted data are valuable in year-to-year comparisons of the same month – for example, May 2023 versus May 2024.
