Another former member of the Allegany County Legislature has died. Preston "Roy" Lucas of Wellsville passed away Monday. He served two terms, beginning in January 1995. Allegany County Republican Committee Chair Dwight "Mike" Healy said today he "was saddened" by the news. Dr. Robert Heineman of Alfred served with Lucas on the legislature and sat next to him in the chambers; He said "Roy was a dedicated public servant." Before politics, Lucas was a founding member of the Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps, which answered its first call on January 1, 1967 at 10 a.m. For decades, he served as the Treasurer, keeping the volunteer squad flush with funding. The obituary is pending, as are statements from Allegany County Legislative Chairman Curt Crandall and Wellsville Ambulance. This is a developing story.
