ANGELICA - Angelica Community Radio (WRAQ-LP 92.7 FM) recently
accepted a donation from members of a local reading and discussion group to
help the station with general operating support.
Meredith Chilson, a PAGES member since 2020, said, “Every year we choose a local non-profit organization and donate in support of its mission. This year, we selected Angelica Community Radio for its dedication to programming that promotes life-long learning, such as “City Arts and Lectures”, “The Thomas Jefferson Hour”, “CIVICS 101” and “The Book Show”, plus two locally produced programs focused on literacy: “Radio Reading Journey” presents poems and stories read aloud for young listeners, while “GV Talks Books/STEAM” is produced at Genesee Valley Central School by and for students. You can’t help but learn something new when you tune in to WRAQ.”
For example, in 2020 the station hosted the “Votes for
Women! 19th Amendment Book Club” and facilitated the donation of 15 brand new
copies of the book, Women Will Vote: Winning Suffrage in New York State
(Pastorello; Goodier) to the Southern Tier Library System.
Angelica Community Radio’s music programming is diverse and
eclectic, ranging from old-time C&W music by Salty Austin, to bluegrass,
jazz, blues, baroque, indie, folk, and funk. It also offers public affairs and
educational programs. Visit wraq.org to

WRAQ Program Director Don Ash remarked, “We’re an all-volunteer station broadcasting and streaming 24-7 without advertising income. We operate on an extremely tight budget, raising what we can through donations, personal memberships, and underwriting support from local businesses. We are extremely grateful to PAGES for choosing WRAQ as its beneficiary this year.”
Organized in 1994, PAGES first met in January of 1995. The four original members were interested in
reading a wide variety of materials that might lead to lively discussion. Selections have been made by member
suggestion and group consensus from prose and poetry, fiction and nonfiction.
The group meets monthly, and different members host the meetings and lead book
discussions. Current members hail from
Belmont, Alfred, Whitesville and Angelica and hold meetings via telephone
conference call.
