No charges expected in truck-pedestrian accident in Wellsville

WELLSVILLE — Amity-based State Police are not expected to file any charges after a truck-pedestrian accident seriously injured an Allegany County man at 1:06 a.m. Tuesday on state Route 19 in Wellsville near the former Dresser-Rand plant.

According to James O’Callaghan, State Police Troop A public information officer, a 42-year-old male from Belmont was struck by a northbound 2009 F150 truck with plow attachment at approximately 1:06 a.m. on state Route 19 in the town of Wellsville.

The driver of the truck, identified by police as a 52-year-old Wellsville male resident, told authorities he didn’t initially know what he had struck, but that the collision occurred on the center yellow line of the roadway.

The seriously injured pedestrian was initially taken to Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville but was later transferred by a Medical Transport Service Advanced Life Support ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. While weather was ruled out as a factor in the accident, troopers said medical helicopters were unable to fly. The highway was closed during the accident investigation.

O’Callaghan said while the accident remains under investigation, troopers don’t believe alcohol had any role in the accident. The names of the driver and pedestrian have not been released.
