Letter to the Editor regarding Cuba Joint Fire District truck purchase

TO THE TAXPAYERS OF THE CUBA JOINT FIRE DISTRICT

The Board of Fire Commissioners of the Cuba Joint Fire District will be meeting at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday November 11, 2020 to vote on approving the bid award for a new fire truck.  THIS BID WILL BE OVER $650,000 – FOR A CUSTOM-BUILT PIECE OF APPARATUS THAT WE DO NOT NEED.

As a former member of the fire department – 24 years of active service – and a former Commissioner – 6 years on the Board, and the    current Fire District Treasurer - soon to be ex-Treasurer – I know that this expenditure IS NOT in the best interest of the Fire District tax payer’s nor is it a necessary or prudent expense.

A new truck is needed, actually 2 new trucks are needed, to replace ageing equipment but, this is an extravagant waste of hard earned tax dollars, being pushed by three members of the Board - who are also members of the fire department - and probably another Board member who has no knowledge of what is needed or not – but who has continuously backed any spending the fire department has brought up over his 2 terms as a Commissioner – no matter what they wanted (based on a review of over 360 motions he voted on since 1/1/14).

If anyone else is out there who cares, please attend this meeting and ask questions, make your feelings known, or, just sit back, take out your wallet, and see what they vote to buy next.

To the taxpayers of the proposed Belmont Joint Fire District – you may be heading in this direction in the near future.
