Belmont house fire, four people rescued

At approximately 5:59 p.m. Thursday, Allegany County Emergency Services Dispatchers received a 911 call reporting a structure fire at a residence on County Road 31, Amity. The caller stated that the fire was on the second floor with four occupants still in the residence. Belmont Fire, Scio Fire and Amity Rescue were dispatched immediately, including Friendship to stand by for Belmont. A Deputy Sheriff as well as Friendship PD responded to the scene. All departments had apparatus responding within 5 minutes from the time of dispatch. The first arriving chief from Scio was on scene within 5 minutes and reported heavy smoke showing. Shortly after to our relief, the responding officers were able to get all occupants out of the residence.

At 6:08 p.m. the first arriving apparatus from Scio reported to incident command that they were coming in hot. Scio was able to deploy two hand lines and had them ready for arriving interior fire fighters from Belmont. The fire was determined to be on the 'A Side' of the structure (or front side), on the second floor. The interior crew was able to advance a hand line and get the fire knocked down within minutes, containing the fire to the room of origin, there was however heavy smoke damage to the second floor.

The Allegany County Fire Investigation Unit was requested to the scene and most units were clear by 7:30 p.m. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. All units were back in service by 10:53 p.m. The Red Cross was notified to assist the family.
