Approximately one month ago the Town of Wellsville declared
a state of emergency on response to the Covid-19 pandemic that has swept the
world. As of the latest press release, the County Department of Health is
reporting there have been 31 positive cases. We feel that everyone has done
their part in following the recommendations sent out by the CDC for social
distancing, avoiding contact with others and the cleaning of hands and surfaces
that are touched. This has not been an easy task at times, but the results are
that the citizens have kept the numbers low in comparison to other areas. The
State Department of Health has shown an overall decline in positive numbers by
day also, with a few exceptions. We ask that you all continue these efforts as
this decline does not mean that this is over, nor will it be any time soon. The
Governor has also put in effect an Executive Order that anyone in a public area
is required to wear a face mask of some sort. It is also recommended that only
one person run errands when possible, going to the store for groceries should
not be a family event. There are reports of this happening in neighboring
Steuben County and the Hornell area, this is the direct result of them having
near 200 confirmed cases. If possible, you should avoid going to this area. Grocery
delivery is still available for Wellsville and will be for as long as it is
needed, you may call Tops, Giant, or Save A Lot for more details or to place an
order. We also ask that neighbors still check in on each other daily with a
phone call, text message, or conversing from a distance. We hope that we are on
the downside of this crisis but we all must continue to do our part to keep the
trend going in that direction.
