Town of Wellsville Emergency Management statement

PRESS RELEASE:
With the recent press release from Allegany County stating that there are 11 confirmed cases within the County and is expected to presumably rise, we ask that you all take extra precautions to avoid contracting this illness. The towns that these cases are in seems to be irrelevant and now we will never know if having that information could have raised more awareness and slowed the spread. Neighboring counties are reporting a rise in confirmed cases as well with Steuben County at 40, Cattaraugus County at 7 and Wyoming County at 11 as per their press releases. If you don’t need to go out simply stay home to avoid possible exposure. Grocery delivery is still available within the town for those that request it and will be as long as it is needed. Staying home is the only way we can beat this. If you do have to go out keep your distance from others, use hand sanitizer after touching any surface, most importantly avoid touching your face and wash your hands upon returning home at the very least. We are also aware that supplies of hand sanitizer and cleaning wipes are scarce at best. If you are able to find some of those products please do not purchase more than you need, most stores are now limiting the amount that you can purchase at one time.

In the wake of recent tragedies surrounding our community we ask that you check on your friends and family members often. Call, text, talk with a neighbor from a safe distance. Allegany County, in conjunction with other New State Counties, has launched the new campaign, Take 5 for New York. They are asking residents to take 5 minutes of each day to call a friend or loved one and check on them. With many families being isolated, stress and anxiety is sure to build, take 5 minutes to yourself if needed. ZOOM meetings are becoming a popular way of connecting several friends at one time through the use of a computer or smart phone. Some signs of depression and stress may not be as noticeable as others, if you observe a friend or family member showing signs do not be afraid to call for help. Contact information will be provided below. Stay safe…. Stay home!
