Steuben County featured on PBS's Places to Love

CORNING, NY – While the current state of things might have us putting travel on hold, we can dream, we can plan, we can look forward to the time when we’re able to get out and about again. And it is certainly refreshing to come across positive messages and uplifting shows focusing on some of the people and places that are worth dreaming about visiting. Turns out some of those people and places are right in our own back yard.
For nearly two decades Samantha Brown was one of the premiere travel experts on the Travel Channel. An icon in the travel community and beloved by so many around the world, in 2018 Sam took her wit and charm, as well as her passion for people, places and travel to PBS to start a new show called Places to Love which focuses on the people and the culture of a place, the heart and soul of a place.
In June 2019, she and her Emmy-wining crew arrived for a week of fun and exploration in Corning and the Southern Finger Lakes to shoot an episode for the show’s third season which is currently airing across the country on PBS. While she was here, Sam explored the world’s largest museum devoted to glass, tried her hand at glassblowing with local artists at Hands-on Glass Studio, discovered the remarkable engravings and delightful personalities of master engraver Max Erlacher and his wife Kitty, took a tour of a local cemetery with the "cemetery lady" and stepped back in time to explore one of the few churches to have its interior designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany. Sam also enjoyed "English-Cut" donuts at a small bakery in Bath, NY (good luck finding them anywhere else), learned about the impact one local winery has had on the of the evolution of the Finger Lakes as a world-class wine region, uncovered a hidden gem and aviation pioneer at the Glenn H. Curtiss Museum, and more.
The episode shot in Steuben County will air on local PBS stations WSKG at 11:30am on Sunday, April 5th, and on WXXI at 5:00pm on Sunday April 5th. It is already currently airing elsewhere across the country.

Sam had a chance to meet some wonderful locals while she was here and she reveals that they are as much a part of the culture and an important reason Corning and the Southern Finger Lakes is a place to love.
