Houghton, N.Y.—This Friday, the Houghton Symphony Orchestra presents Howard Hanson’s “Merry Mount Suite” as part of their 2019 fall concert.
Directed by Armenio Suzano, dean of the Greatbatch School of Music, the Houghton Symphony Orchestra is composed of roughly sixty members. It features a mix of music majors, non-music majors, and players from the community.
Assistant professor of jazz studies Russell Scarborough will feature as trombone soloist in his arrangement of Cole Porter’s “Where Have You Been?”
Soprano Isabella Goss will accompany the orchestra as a vocal soloist in their performance of the U.S. National Anthem.
Eden Jones, HSO’s strings librarian as well as the orchestra’s principal second violinist, extended an open invitation for the public to join them on Friday evening for this free concert. In addition to the aforementioned pieces, “attendees will also hear several other exciting selections from Beethoven, Schubert, Ives, and Copland,” said Jones, “making for what is sure to be a beautiful night of music.”
The orchestra will perform in Houghton College’s Wesley Chapel at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 8th. The event is free to the public, with no ticket required.
