The Allegany County Board of Elections confirmed Wednesday morning that Election night results in at least three towns could be modified, thanks to write-in and absentee ballots.
Belfast Town Board
When the polls closed Tuesday night, Republican Andrew Chamberlain had 307 votes and Republican David DeRock had 177 votes. Two seats are available. However, election officials said there are 19 absentee ballots and 195 write-in votes.
Town of Friendship
The town board race remains active. Unofficial results show two seats up for grabs with Linda Mascho with 192 votes and Carolyn Carney with 191 votes. Absentee and write-in could impact the final results.
Town of Hume
Absentee and write-in ballots could also impact this race. Joel Clark ended with 233, Bruce Hinz had 22, Warren Smith received 220 votes and Jim Wolfer has 181.
Town of Andover
An odd situation here. When polls closed, Tasha Rossrucker had 187 votes for Town Clerk while incumbent Amanda Joyce-Phelps had 183. Then come absentee ballots. Here's the oddity. The incumbent has accepted a new job and asked voters not to cast ballots for her. If, if the end, she wins, she will need to refuse the position. The Town Board would then have to appoint someone, likely Rossrucker, but just for a year. Another election would be held in 2020 to complete the term.
The Board of Elections said absentee ballots will not be counted until November 19th.
