BREAKING: New layoffs hit major Wellsville manufacturer

A major Wellsville manufacturer this week dumped dozens of workers, one with 35 years of experience. Wellsville Regional News (WRN) learned today that LJUNGSTRÖM , the former Air Preheater Company, axed dozens of jobs this week. The facility operates on South Main Street and Andover Road in Wellsville. We spoke with one 35 year employee who was let go Tuesday. He said, as best he knows, 28 workers were shown the door Tuesday...and the number may have climbed to 35 today. Others have told us the displaced worker number may reach 50 or more. The worker, who asked not to be identified, said the plant had experienced a work slow down during the past few months. The layoffs, he said, included both "shop and office workers."
WRN quickly reached out to lawmakers. County legislator Karl Graves represents the Wellsville area. He said he is "very concerned" noting this does not "bode well for business in Allegany County." He added, "when is this gonna stop?"
Steve Havey is also a legislator that represents Wellsville. He told WRN that "my first thought is that this is horrible...this is a bad string of bad luck for the area."
Curt Crandall chairs the Allegany County Legislature; He told WRN that "anytime there are layoffs, we're concerned. When you have layoffs involving this many people, it is very concerning.
Reached this evening, Mayor Randy Shayler said "this is very bad news, especially for the individuals involved." He added that "we need to get closer to these companies."

Below is a portion of a letter that a worker received:

An employee told us "there was no work" at the plant. He noted that business was "slowing down." This worker also said that "they took a foreman title away from four of them and made them working leadmen."
Alstom Air Preheater was sold in 2014.
