Elmira College Announces Tuition Reset
Effective with the 2019-2020 academic year, Elmira College will reset its tuition and fees to $35,400 - a decrease of 15% - to narrow the gap between the published tuition rate and the anticipated amount families will pay. The reset puts the undergraduate tuition base equivalent to what Elmira College charged in 2011-2012.
"There is a national concern about the rising cost of a college education," said Chris Coons, vice president of enrollment management at Elmira College. "By resetting the tuition rate at Elmira College, we are making an Elmira education a real possibility for more students."
Elmira College will offer nearly $14 million in scholarships and grants in 2019-2020, but this new model moves the College from a "high-tuition/high-discount" model to one that is more affordable for students over the four years spent earning a degree. The tuition reset moves Elmira College's tuition rate to one of the lowest undergraduate tuition prices of any four-year private college or university in the region.
"We are preparing to enter a new chapter at Elmira College with a new 2018-2023 strategic plan, scheduled to be released in late October. The tuition reset supports the plan's goal of increasing and diversifying enrollment over the next five years," said Dr. Charles Lindsay, president of Elmira College. "Elmira College was founded at a time, in 1855, when ideas about human rights and opportunity permeated much of the thinking in Upstate New York. We are reconnecting to that spirit and renewing our commitment for students from all walks of life to experience the engaging, immersive, and supportive student-centered education that they will find at Elmira College."
