Obituary: Elmer Leroy Giles, 68, Friendship

FRIENDSHIP - Elmer Leroy Giles, 68, of 82 West Main Street, Friendship, passed away Sunday, July 8, 2018 at home after a lengthy illness. Born on May 5, 1950, in Cuba, he was a son of Robert and Ruth Thompson Giles.  In November of 1976 he married the former Nora Jean VanGilder who predeceased him on November 17, 1995. 
Elmer enjoyed antique cars, car shows, cruise nights, tinkering in his garage, hunting, riding snowmobile, model cars and in his younger years was good at roller skating.  He loved country music and artists such as Elvis Presley and Travis Tritt. He is survived by his children Benjamin (Regina) Giles of Friendship, Melissa S. Cantrell of  Belfast, Timothy (Tanja Eberharter) Giles of Cuba; 12 grandchildren; two brothers, Ricky (June) Giles of Allegany and   Billy Giles of Alabama; a sister, Dawn Swick; his longtime companion, Connie Taft of Friendship and her sons Herbert and John Lovell whom he raised as his own.\; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife he was predeceased by a brother Robert Giles, Jr., a sister Sherry Mitchum, and a son in law Timothy Cantrell. Family and Friends may attend a Memorial Visitation at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street Cuba, on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 from 2-4 p.m. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Friendship, NY 14739
