Houghton College's Ryann Cooley to Exhibit at JCC

HOUGHTON, NY – On Friday, April 20, Houghton College’s Ryann Cooley, professor of digital media and photography, will be featured as a solo artist at the Center Gallery at the Jamestown Community College (JCC) campus in Olean, NY.
Cooley’s exhibit, “Kinesthesia Room (2),” focuses on the idea of phenomenon as a physical presence that is related to human experience and perception. As technology becomes more prevalent in all aspects of life, there are resulting disconnections. “My work primarily examines the physical disengagement with presence, common to mediated experiences in photography as well as film and video,” remarks Cooley.
“Kinesthesia Room (2)” achieves this through the use of recorded occurrences of light. Paired with the lack of a fixed structure to observe, Cooley’s exhibit “decenters” the viewer’s sense of space and time, keeping the viewer within the present moment.
The exhibit will be on display from April 20 to May 25. There will be a catered opening reception April 20 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., featuring live music.
The Cattaraugus County Arts Council (CCAC) works in collaboration with Jamestown Community College to produce exhibitions at JCC’s Center Gallery. The Center Gallery is open Monday-Friday and admission is free.
