With roots in Allegany County, Father-daughter team scores big on TV show

WHEC-TV
Father-daughter team Kirk and Brooke Spangler won $1,415,098 on Monday night’s episode of NBC’s “The Wall.'
The father-daughter team are originally from Angelica in Allegany County. Kirk works for SUNY Geneseo as the associate director of facilities services. He currently lives in Belfast, while Brooke is now working as a pharmacist in Virginia after recently graduating from college.
Brooke applied to be on the show to thank her father for his sacrifices during her childhood. He raised Brooke and her sister as a single father.
Kirk worked two jobs to support his daughters, and began refereeing their youth sports games to spend more time with them. He remains a referee 38 years later.
Kirk successfully answered three questions correctly, and Brooke’s decisions outside of the question booth led them to build up a total of $1,415,098. While in isolation, Kirk had the option to sign a guarantee of at least $35,023 (which ended up being $95,023 because he answered three questions correctly), or risk what happened on The Wall.
In the end, he tore up the guarantee, making the Spanglers millionaires.
The $1.4 million total is a record on NBC's "The Wall."
