Obituary: Clair E. "Speed" Guinnip, 84, Scio

SCIO - Clair E. "Speed" Guinnip, of 4309 E. Sciota St., passed away Sunday (April 16, 2017) at his home, surrounded by his wife and loving family. Speed was born Sept. 14, 1932, in Belmont and was a son of Rufus M. and Louise Cowles Guinnip. On July 12, 1958, at the Methodist Church in Hornell, he married his wife of 58 years, Katheline M. Muchler, who survives. Speed attended Allentown and Scio schools. He served in the U.S. Army from Dec. 3, 1952, to Dec. 2, 1954, during the Korean War as a machine gunner and he received medals. Speed, having worked at several jobs, retired from Dresser-Rand in Wellsville in 1995, with 30 years of service. Speed was a 50-year-plus dedicated member of the Scio Fire Department. He served 25 years as a district coordinator (DC 3) for Allegany County. In his younger years, he enjoyed camping and hunting, but most of all Speed's family was his life. Along with his loving wife, Speed is survived by two daughters, Donna L. Dean of Scio and Judy A. (Richard) Fanton of Scio; four grandchildren, Jeffery (Kelley) Crittenden of Burns, Tenn., and Jennifer (Josh) Goodridge, Cody (Jessica) Dean and Kyle (Deanna) Fanton, all of Scio; seven great-grandchildren, Aralyn, Mercedez, Noah, Harper, Holden, Brantley and Blake; a sister, Leola Perkins of Wellsville; and several nieces and nephews. He also had a beloved dog, Chloe. In addition to his parents, Speed was predeceased by four brothers, Merle, Rufus Jr., Glen and Sherm Guinnip; and two sisters, Doris Boland and Barbara Walsh. A memorial service will be held at the Scio Community Center at noon Sunday, April 30, 2017. Burial will be in Fair Lawn Cemetery in Scio. Arrangements are under the direction of the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home Inc., 24 Genesee Parkway, Cuba.
