Livingston deputies make rescue on Conesus Lake

CONESUS LAKE- Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty credits two Deputies with saving the life of a Kansas City man after he overturned his kayak Sunday afternoon.
Marine Patrol Deputies Clark Young and James Clark were assigned to the Navigation Unit and were actively patrolling Conesus Lake on April 23rd at approximately 3:00 P.M.   The Deputy Sheriffs observed what appeared to be a log floating mid-lake. When they approached, they found a man clinging to an overturned kayak without a personal flotation device.
The Deputies pulled the man from the water and provided first aid for hypothermia. The water temperature was 48 degrees and the man had been in the water for approximately 10 minutes.
The man was identified as Thomas P. Walker from Kansas City, Missouri. Mr. Walker was transported to the Sheriff's substation at Long Point where he refused further medical attention and was turned over to family members.
Walker was issued a Navigation citation for not having or wearing a Personal Flotation Device.
Sheriff Dougherty would like to remind our residents and visitors to always have a PFD onboard when on the waters in Livingston County.
