Two from Wellsville face drug charges following I-390 stop



Howells
INTERSTATE 390: Livingston County Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty reports that two people were arrested for drug-related offenses as part of the Sheriff’s Office initiative “Operation Safe Interstate” on Interstate 390. On February 2, 2017 Deputy Shawn Whitford stopped a vehicle on Interstate 390 for vehicle and traffic law violations. During the course of the traffic stop, the Deputy Sheriff discovered that the driver, 20-year-old James J. Knefley from Wellsville, NY, was allegedly in possession of marijuana. Further investigation on scene alleges that the passenger in the vehicle, 18-year-old Dominica R. Howells of Wellsville, was in possession of 10 bags of crack cocaine as well as 10 bags of heroin. Knefley was issued an appearance ticket for Unlawful Possession of Marijuana as well as traffic tickets. Howells was charged with felony Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree (intent to sell/give), felony Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 5th Degree (weight of cocaine) and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree. Howells was taken to the Livingston County Jail and turned over to Central Booking Deputies for processing and held in pre-arraignment detention. A bail recommendation of $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond was provided by the District Attorney's Office. Howells was arraigned on February 3rd in Lima Town Court before Judge Luhowy.  The Judge remanded Howells to the custody of the Sheriff on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.
