Alfred State was one of 262 campuses named a Voter Friendly Campus by Fair Election Center’s Campus Vote Project and NASPA – Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education.
The initiative recognizes institutions that have planned and implemented practices that encourage their students to register and vote in the elections. Alfred State is one of twelve campuses, seven SUNY, who were recognized in New York.
Director of Global Engagement and Civic Wellbeing Cyan Corwine is proud how voter awareness information has been integrated into other civic engagement events. “Alfred State continues to promote initiatives like this that support student civic leadership and informed, active community engagement. This designation is an extension of our focus on preparing students for successful careers and purposeful lives.”
The mission of the 2023-24 Voter Friendly Campus program is to bolster colleges and universities’ efforts to help students overcome barriers to participating in the political process – every year, not just during years featuring federal elections.
Alfred State was evaluated based on a written plan for how the college planned to register, educate, and turnout student voters, how the college facilitated voter engagement efforts on our campus, and a final analysis of the efforts.
The institutions designated Voter Friendly Campuses represent a wide range of two-year, four-year, public, private, rural, and urban campuses, collectively serving over 3.5 million students. The 262 campuses honored was the most in the history of the program that started in 2016.
