Joseph E. Hanes, 82, of Mills, PA, died Friday, June 26, 2020 in UPMC Cole, Coudersport, PA. Born August 8, 1937, in Pike Township, PA, he was the son of Leon C. and Vera Viola Morgan Hanes. On September 13, 1957, in Fairfield, CT, he married the former Judith A. Liepertz, who survives.
Joseph was employed as a truck driver by Texaco and Kimberly-Clark and he maintained a small masonry business. He was a member of the New England Teamsters Local 159 throughout his career. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved to spend time in the woods. In retirement, he was a member of the Westfield Area Lions Club and the Westfield Historical Society.
Surviving besides his wife, Judy, are: two children, Kathleen O’Connor of Oak Park, IL and Joseph E. Hanes, Jr. of Torrington, CT; a brother, Robert Hanes of New Smyrna, FL, a sister, Harriett (Frank) Arreola of Magna, UT; three sisters-in-law, Naomi Hanes of Sunderlinville, Miriam Lucy Hanes of Lawrenceville, and Beverly Channey of Bradenton, FL; nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Cynthia A. Hanes; his step-father, Ross Young; and three brothers, William Hanes, Herbert L. Hanes, and Harry T. Hanes.
Cremation was at Olney-Foust Crematory. A memorial gathering will be held on a later date.
