Wellsville Police Chief: "Don’t look for a Wellsville Police suggestion box anytime soon"

Earlier this week, the Cuba Police Department offered a "challenge" of sorts to other agencies. Wellsville Police Chief Tim O'Grady responded with:

Don’t look for a Wellsville Police suggestion box anytime soon.  As a lot of people in the community are aware, I am a very approachable person.  Since the beginning of my tenure as the Chief of Police in Wellsville I have had an open door policy.  Over the years many people have stopped into my office, had a discussion and expressed their views. I encourage  any resident of the Village to contact me directly with any police related concern they may have. Following the end of NYS PAUSE I would be glad to meet with any group that may have questions regarding the department.  I can be contacted through email chiefofpolice@wellsvilleny.com or by calling 596-1769.Thanks,
Tim O’Grady

Cuba Police Chief Dustin Burch issued this statement:
"Chief O’Grady is a great Police Chief who has done very well in his career and I respect him tremendously. We always have great conversations at meetings. We have great law enforcement leaders in this county and I respect every single one of them. Not every police department operates the same way and I would not expect them to. What works in some areas doesn’t in others. We are simply trying to create new ways for the public to get to know us and how we operate.  Not everything that comes in to us via this suggestion method will be welcomed but at least this way no one will be able to say we haven’t listened like many are saying across the country right now. If we can’t change based on a suggestion this will at least give us an opportunity to see what the public “thinks” we need to change and give us the opportunity to explain why we can’t. A lot of times the public just assumes we aren’t operating the correct way based on something they see in the news or passing by. Now we will be able to say we took your suggestion serious and we changed it, tweaked our policy OR the answer is simply no we can’t change and here is why.....open dialogue. I am also very open and engaging the public. Probably more so than most. That being said, I am aware that many people simply will not just call or come to the station to start that talk. This may change some of that...it’s should also be noted that Wellsville PD is a great agency
( probably better than ours) we were just trying to have a little fun with engaging the public and attempting to ease tensions in a trying time..."
