Press Release-
PENN YAN—The Olean Racial Justice Coalition (ORJC) has thrown its support behind Tracy Mitrano’s bid for Congress. Formed to support Black Lives Matter in the aftermath of the George Floyd death at the hands of police, ORJC lists more than 2,200 members. This is the group’s first political endorsement.
In a statement released Tuesday, ORJC cited Mitrano’s support for equal rights and laws benefiting the working class, minorities and the poor of the 23rd district. It observed that her opponent, incumbent Republican Tom Reed, “has proven time and again to have no regard for these matters.
“Tracy has reached out to us to personally listen to the things we have to say and support our cause in the betterment of our local community,” the statement said. “Additionally, Tracy is invested in our local community, as evidenced by her enthusiastic attendance and participation in the ORJC Juneteenth rally. A vote for Tracy is a vote for a better Olean.”
“I am deeply honored by this endorsement,” said Mitrano. “I’ve been active in civil rights issues all my adult life. Seeing young people take up the battle the way ORJC has is such an inspiring, encouraging development. I know that working together, we really are going to make a big difference in how this country addresses issues of race and justice.”
