Allegany County Legislature approves creating new part-time Assistant District Attorney position

The Allegany County Legislature voted unanimously Monday afternoon to create the part-time position of seventh Assistant District Attorney. The move would amend a 1975 provision. The position will earn an annual salary of $40,000. Lawmakers also approved a measure to exempt and exclude its emergency responders from any applicable Family Medical Leave Act and emergency paid leave provisions of the Act. Legislators were told in a memorandum that these personnel are essential in providing critical public health and safety emergency services to residents and need to be available for work to the extent possible. Legislator Brooke Harris of Alfred cast the lone dissenting vote. The Board also voted to table action on a resolution that would have given the Director of Planning some additional authority under certain circumstances.
In other action:
  • Chairman Crandall proclaimed this week as Public Safety Telecommunicators week.
  • Received a letter from Tim Boyde resigning as Deputy County Administrator.
