Welcome to Wellsville signs work continues

Work will continue this Spring on the two newly constructed monuments leading visitors into Wellsville’s business district at the intersection of Madison Street and the Genesee Parkway.
Construction of the monuments began in early 2019 when Alfred State College Masonry students poured a foundation and began laying blocks on the southeast side of the intersection of Madison Street and Routes 417/19. The work continued in the fall when students placed brick facing on the first monument and started construction of the second.
It is all part of a Downtown Beautification Project funded by a $200,000 grant from former state Senator Catharine Young according to Bill Whitfield, Wellsville’s Public Works Director
In the Spring, he said the students will cap off the monuments with granite, finish the granite inlays and install lighting.
As the Beautification Project continues, more work is scheduled to take place on Main Street with the installation of addition of four more stamped concrete crosswalks near Music Ally, at the intersection of Fassett Street, at Pizza King and at State and Main. A bump-out with raised curbing and grass is also planned for the area near Pizza King. The ornamental lighting on Main Street will be extended to the bridge at Dyke’s Creek.
The entire beautification project is expected to be completed by July 2021.
