Rosanne Wilson Rogers Kratts: Beloved Mother,
Grandmother, great grandmother
CUBA — Rosanne Wilson Rogers Kratts, 92, went to be with her
Lord and Savior on the morning of Monday (Jan. 13, 2020) at Cuba Memorial
Hospitals, Palliative Care Unit, with loving family present. Born on May 4,
1927, in Cuba she was a daughter LaVerne Stephen and Elizabeth Medbury Wilson
Rogers. She was married on August 21,
1949, to Clifford Lewis Kratts by Fr. John Webber at Christ Episcopal Church,
Cuba.
She graduated from Cuba Central School in June of 1945. During the war years she was an aircraft
observer from the Old Cuba High School on Medbury Ave. She then became a member of the Nurses Cadet
Corp. from August-October 1945 which was a Military Nurses Training
Program. Between 1945-48 she obtained
her Licensed Practical Nurses Certification.
Her first job was for her future mother-in-law Jennie Kratts who was
recovering from a recent stroke.
Later she worked at Cuba Memorial Hospital, the Cuba Nursing
Home and Olean Nursing Home on 26th Street in Olean. Her last employment was site manager for the
Office of the Aging Cuba site.
In 1950, she and her husband joined the West Clarksville Grange
and later transferred their membership the Cuba Grange 799 where she was a
Golden Sheath Member serving in most of the subordinate offices at the local
level as well as for the Allegany County Pomona Grange.
She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Cuba where
she was a communicant serving on the Vestry and for many years was Church
Warden. She was a member and Past
President of the Cuba Council of Churches and was also a member and past
president of the Cuba Historical Society.
She was a life member of the Cuba American Legion Post 655 Auxiliary,
joining under the membership of her eldest son, holding various offices
including Auxiliary President at Post 655 and at the Allegany County
Level. When her children were young, she
was involved with of the Boy Scouts of America starting as an Assistant Den
Mother and later was the first women Cub Master.
In 1983 she journeyed to Canada and joined the sisterhood of
St. John the Divine out of Toronto, Canada as a novice and postulant. She had previously been an associate since
1965. She returned to the United States
in 1986.
On October 8, 2011 she moved to Manor Hills Assisted Living
Facility and was active up to the last six months, holding the office of
President and Vice President.
She is survived by six children, Stephen Clifford Kratts of Wellsville,
Lewis Leslie (Joyce) Kratts of Cuba, William Peter (Julie) Kratts of Rockfield,
KY, Mary Beth Kalita of Athens, TN, Christine Anne Kratts of Cuba and Mark Valentine Kratts of Olean; 9
Grandchildren Bradley (Karen), Jaime (Jason), John (Kimberley), Justin
(LeAnne), Shannon (Matthew), Marcus (Katie), Mathew (Brianne), Alexander
(Samantha), Constance (Johnathon); Several Great Grandchildren. In addition to
her parents and husband she was predeceased by a granddaughter Theresa Hendon
in 2017.
Friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday
(Jan. 16, 2020) at Christ Episcopal Church, 19 South St., Cuba, at which time a
Memorial Service will be held. The Rev, Richard L. Hamlin will officiate.
