The Town of Clarksville has 557 registered voters. However, during a special election on Tuesday only 40 made their way to the polls. By a 21-19 margin, voters rejected a plan to make the Town Clerk/Tax Collector position appointed rather than elected.
Previously, Town Clerk Janice Dennis announced she would not seek re-election. Dennis, who just turned 80, held the post for thirty-four years.
