Smethport man killed in crash

A Smethport man was killed early Sunday in a crash in Lafayette Township. PA Troopers said 35-year-old Michael Zaehringer was pronounced dead at the scene along State Route 59 just west of Airport Road. State police said he was driving westbound at a high rate of speed when he crossed the road and struck a highway sign. He then traveled another 109 feet before slamming into a culvert. Troopers said Zaehringer was not wearing a seatbelt.
