Olean man faces a bevy of charges for allegedly attacking, injuring police officer in Wyoming County


The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office responded to Dunbar Road in the Town of Attica for the report of a vehicle in the ditch.  An Attica Police Officer responded to the scene and arrived first to assist while Attica Fire Department members attempted to render aid to the driver, David F. Woods Jr., 46 of Olean.  Woods refused medical treatment.  According to a press release, while awaiting the arrival of deputies, the Attica Police Officer was allegedly punched in the face by Woods.  The Attica Officer deployed a Taser on Woods, and a struggle then ensued.  Members of Attica Fire Department assisted the Attica Police Officer in taking Woods into custody.  Upon the arrival of deputies, Woods was placed under arrest and walked to a marked Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle.  While attempting to place Woods in the rear seat, Woods allegedly forcefully kicked the Attica Police Officer’s knee causing physical injury to his knee.  Woods was transported to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office for processing where he refused to take a chemical test.  Woods was charged with the following:
Felony assault in the Second Degree, Attempted Assault in the Third Degree, Obstructing Governmental Administration in the Second Degree, Resisting Arrest, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, Driving While Intoxicated, Refusal of Breath Test, Speed Not Reasonable and Prudent, Moved From Lane Unsafely, and Failed to Keep Right.  Woods was arraigned in the Town of Attica Court where bail was set in the amount of $25,000.00 cash bail or $50,000.00 bond.  Woods was scheduled to reappear in the Town of Attica Court on May 7, 2018 for further proceedings.
