Jones Memorial Hospital’s information systems are back online. Our doctors, nurses and staff members are working with records electronically, and patients coming to our hospital or clinics for services no longer need to bring their medication lists or medical history. For a few days staff members will continue to do some record-keeping manually, but we expect to resume full operational status of all digital systems this week.
As previously reported, a limited number of Jones Memorial Hospital information systems had been offline in previous days due to a cyberattack. Information Technology experts from Jones have partnered with IT professionals from the University of Rochester, Noyes, and St. James hospitals to address the problem. The leadership of Jones appreciates their dedication and hard work in helping to restore our systems. The collaboration that enabled Jones to solve the downtime issue efficiently represents one of the many benefits of Jones’ affiliation with UR Medicine.
We also thank our patients and staff for their patience during this downtime. We have continued to provide high-quality care throughout this event, using the standard computer downtime procedures we regularly train and prepare for.
We continue to believe that no financial or medical information has been compromised, and have been in contact with law enforcement and the New York State Department of Health since the downtime began. This issue was isolated to Jones Memorial Hospital's computer systems.
We are protecting against future attacks with multiple safeguards that employ the latest information security technologies and protocols. Based on these improvements, information at Jones will be as secure as at virtually any other health system. Because cybercriminals continually look for new ways to target organizations, including hospitals, we will continue to evaluate and update our security measures while focusing on patient safety and quality care as our top priorities.
