An Allegany County jury has convicted a former Whitesville man of four counts of 2nd degree rape, two counts of sexual abuse in the second degree and one count of endangering the welfare of a child. The jury determined that Michael D. Turner committed the crimes against a (then)13-year-old in Wellsville and Independence between December 2015 and April 2016. Turner, a former Allegany County resident, was taken into custody by the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office in Lafollette, TN. A judge remanded Turner to the Allegany County Jail to await sentencing.
Assistant District Attorney Thomas Fuoco was initially assigned the case, however, due to a conflict with the District Attorney's Office prior to trial, Special Prosecutor Raymond Sciarrino of Mount Morris was assigned to prosecute the case last year. Turner was defended by Jay Carr of Olean.
