Obituary: Lee A. Ryan, 79, Almond


Almond - Lee A. Ryan 79, of 54 Main Street, went to be with our Lord on April 8, 2017 following a struggle with Alzheimer’s and other illnesses. Lee was born in Wellsville on January 9, 1938, the son of Lee Roy and Louise Ormsby Ryan (Doan) and spent the majority of his formative years working on the family farm with his brothers. This time in his life, he developed a great respect for those who work in farming and agriculture.
Lee was a proud Class of 1955 graduate of Alfred Almond Central School, lettering in multiple sports. Later, he was a strong supporter of the Alfred Almond Alumni Association along with his wife Donna.
Lee was recruited right off the family farm in Almond to work in the insurance business in 1962. Along with Donna and numerous staff people, they operated the Lee A. Ryan Insurance Agency from 1962-1994. He continued other entrepreneurial pursuits while being involved in many civic and Christian organizations. Some of his many volunteer involvements include The Alfred Almond Bible Church, The Gideons, The Almond Historical Society, The Alfred Almond Alumni Association, The Hornell Area Life Underwriters, the Hornell Area Barbershoppers, the Nationwide Insurance Hall of Fame, the Family Life Network/Ministries and the National Guard.
He was predeceased by his father; Lee Roy Ryan, and his mother; Louise Ormsby Ryan (Doan). The couple also lost a two day old son, Eric Lee Ryan on January 20, 1960.
He is survived by his wife, the love of his life and best friend, Donna Ryan (Burdett) to whom he was married on December 20, 1958, his three children and their spouses; Jeff and Lisa Ryan of Canisteo, Jenny and Bill Baker of Almond, and Heidi and David Lindley of Anderson, Indiana; ten grandchildren and their spouses: Brett Ryan of Charlotte, North Carolina, Bryce Ryan of Cuba, NY, Reagan Ryan of Houghton, NY, Slade Ryan of Canisteo, Lindsy and Greg Palmer of Rochester, Ryan and Holli Baker of Rochester, Tyler Baker of Almond, Philip and Chelsey Lindley of Niceville, Florida, Erika Lindley of Anderson, Indiana, and Patrick Lindley of Anderson, Indiana, three great grandchildren; Elle Palmer, Audrey Palmer, and Calvin Lindley, and Harper Joy Leigh Baker expected to arrive next month, his brothers and sisters, Larry and Betty Ryan of Bath, David and Linda Ryan of Odessa and Linda and Bruce Cornell of Almond, sisters-in-law; Betsey and Galen Stout of Canandaigua, Jan and Carl Leathersich of Canisteo, many special nieces and nephews, cousins, and numerous close friends.

The family will be present to receive friends at the Alfred Almond Bible Church, State Route 21, Almond, NY on Friday (April 14, 2017) from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. A Celebration of Lee’s life will be held on Saturday (April 15, 2017) at the Alfred Almond Bible Church at 1 p.m. Pastor John Prince and Rick Snavely will officiate. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Almond.
