Arnold E. Hawks, 95, of Wellsville, NY, died Friday, April
7, 2017 in Highland Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Wellsville,
NY. Born March 19, 1922 in Independence,
NY, he was the son of Harley Harrison and Metta Almira Coats Hawks. On June 18, 1942, in Andover, NY, he married
the former Mary I. Whitsell, who survives.
He was a 1941 graduate of Andover Central High School. A World War II Veteran, he served honorably
with the US Army in the European Theatre and was awarded a Purple Heart for
wounds received in the Battle of the Bulge.
He was employed by Dresser-Rand in Wellsville for 31 years. Arnold was a member of Knights Creek
Evangelical Church in Scio, where he served on the Board of Trustees and
formerly served on the Board of Stewards.
He was a life member Morrison Hayes American Legion Post #702 in
Wellsville and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace
Workers Local #1580 in Wellsville.
Surviving besides his wife, Mary, are:
five children, Beverly (David) Macauley of Saskatchewan, Canada, Leona
(Walter Lindsley) Enders of Belfast, NY, Linda (Rev. Carl) Kemp of Scio, NY,
Mary J. (Brian) Ennis of Andover, NY, and Jasa (Walter) Allen of Greenville,
NC; 17 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a grandson, Vic
Kemp; and five siblings. Friends may call at the Mulholland-Crowell
Funeral Home, Wellsville, NY on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 from 5:00 – 8:00
PM. Funeral Services will be held 11:00
AM, Wednesday, April 12, 2017 in the Knights Creek Evangelical Church, Scio,
NY. His son-in-law, Rev. Carl Kemp will
officiate. Burial will be in Whitesville
Rural Cemetery, where Military Rites will be accorded by members of the
Wellsville Legion Honor Guard. Memorials
