HOUGHTON, NY - April 11, 2017 - Houghton College's premier mixed choral ensemble, the Houghton College Choir, will perform on Friday, April 21 at 7:30 p.m. in a tour homecoming concert. The ensemble has recently been on a six-state circuit tour, We Give Thanks, across the Northeast and mid-Atlantic regions.
With musical stylings spanning spirituals and folksongs, to contemporary choral music, to a touch of Renaissance and Baroque motets, the versatile repertoire of the choir has something for all audience members.
"This year's tour was a musical journey through a life filled with gratitude," remarks Daniel David Black, director of choral activities at Houghton and conductor of College Choir. "The pieces we presented focused on thankfulness for the created world, awe and wonder, atonement, reconciliation and renewal, and eternal life."
For more than 80 years, the Houghton College Choir has upheld the sacred a cappella tradition. The choir has performed at Carnegie Hall (New York, NY), St. Peter's Basilica at the Vatican (Vatican City, Italy), Lincoln Center (New York, NY), Fourth Presbyterian Church (Chicago, IL), and in a dozen countries. Other performances include: for the United Nations and World Council of Churches; with the Rochester Oratorio Society, Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, and Southern Tier Symphony; and at national choral conferences.
