In compliance with the "Timely Notice" provision of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998-
Reported Offense: Armed Robbery, At approximately 1a.m. this morning the victim was sitting in his vehicle parked in the Tefft/Reimer area when two black males approached his vehicle and asked for him to roll down his window. At this time, the two suspects brandished a gun and demanded the victims wallet and the victim complied. The suspects ran west towards the Olin Building. The Alfred Police and University Public Safety responded to the scene and are currently investigating the incident. The Office of Public Safety wants to take this opportunity to remind all members of the Alfred University community to be constantly vigilant of their surroundings and take the following specific precautions:
•Trust your instincts; if a situation makes you feel uncomfortable get away as quickly as possible. Always alert a family member, roommate, or trusted friend of your destination, including your estimated time of return.
•Travel in groups of two or more [the buddy system.]
•Alert local police by phoning 911, if confronted with aggression, off-campus.
•Be vigilant for unknown persons or vehicles following you onto campus.
•Do not invite strangers or acquaintances into residence halls.
•Upon entering, immediately lock residence hall doors.
•Report any suspicious persons or circumstances to the Office of Public Safety.
UPDATE: Law Enforcement sources tell us that a handgun was used, but no injuries were reported. Arrests are pending.
