Allegany County Grand Jury indicts Wellsville man after Jan 1. stand off

An Allegany County Grand Jury indicted a Wellsville man on numerous counts after he allegedly held police at bay January 1st. Indictments were handed up today against Edward J. Shay III, 36 of South Franklin Street in Wellsville. The indictment charges include menacing a police officer, menacing 2nd, endangering the welfare of a child, resisting arrest and criminal obstruction of breathing. Prosecutor Mike Finn, in a statement said Shay allegedly "intentionally placed a police officer in fear of serious physical injury...and displayed a loaded shot gun and two police officers and also displayed a loaded shotgun and another person. Shea also allegedly placed his hands over the mouth and nose of a woman in front of a child.
The Sheriff's Department said Shea was bailed out on January 24, pending further court action.
