Obituary: Wesley W. "Bill" Mattison, 89, Wellsville

WELLSVILLE - Wesley W. "Bill" Mattison of Wellsville, NY passed away on Feb. 6, 2017 surrounded by the love of his life Shirley, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was born May 29, 1927, in Eldred, Pa., to LeRoy and Viola Baird Mattison. Wesley was a devoted father to Kathleen Kelleher, William (Sandi) Mattison of Spokane, Wash., Rebecca (Warren) Budd, Beverly (Ron) Nye, Steven (Louise) Mattison, Mark (Joanne Fenske) Mattison and Sherri (Mike Harrison). He also loved each and every one of his grandchildren, Shane Kelleher, Brent (Stacy) Roberts, Rene' (Leah) Kelleher, Kari (Shawn) Scotland, Darci (Shawn) Rose, Matthew (Katie) Mattison, Fred (Bridget) Roberts, Ryan (Joanne) Stisser, Mindy (Scott) Cross, Mark Mattison, Wesley Mattison, Jake Mattison, Nathan (Jessyca) Mattison, Jared (Katie) Mattison, Nikkie (David) Green, Chase Mattison, Tiffany (Seth Coombes) Cline, Allie Mattison and Laura Mattison. Along with 19 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. His family was the joy of his life, he always told everyone, "I am a rich man. I have food on the table, a house, my children and my wonderful wife what more can a man ask for." His love for his family was the foundation to his household. Every spring, the chairs would be placed on the front porch and everyone on the street knew the Mattison Clan would be sitting there having coffee every day at 3:30.

Wesley is predeceased by his brother, Leslie Mattison who was killed in WWII, and Clifford Mattison, who passed away in 1992. He has a sister, Reva Westfall that lives in Orlando, Fla., and several nieces and nephews.

He served in the US Army, stationed in Germany during WWII. After the war, he returned home and married his sweetheart in Alma, NY on June 21, 1947, they have celebrated 69 wedding anniversaries and still had the unconditional love that one can only dream of having. He started working for Bradley Oil and then went to Ford Stamping in Buffalo, NY, from there he worked at Rochester Button Company, Line Material in Portville and lastly the Air Preheater, where he retired in 1992.

Wesley was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 702 in Wellsville, NY.

On Friday (Feb. 10, 2017) the family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Mulholland-Crowell Funeral Home, 296 N. Main St. in Wellsville, N.Y. The funeral service will be held the following day, Saturday (Feb. 11, 2017) at 11 a.m. A graveside burial with full military honors will directly follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. After the burial, the family invites those who want, to join them for a luncheon put on by the Wellsville American Legion Post 702. All donations can be made to the
American Heart Association .
